Bob Spears has been in the computer business for 15 years working in management for CCI/Triad systems, a turn key computer company building management systems for the auto parts, retail hardware and lumber businesses. He has managed groups in marketing, sales, engineering and support. Bob consults on an on-going basis in the early development of new software houses.
Bob has chaired the Membership Committee at the Commonwealth Club of California , a public affairs forum. He was Board Chair of the San Mateo County Red Cross. During that period, the six Red Cross Chapters in five counties of the Bay Area merged into The American Red Cross, Bay Area (ARCBA). He served as Chair of several Board Committees for ARCBA: Health & Safety (consolidating six independent entities into one), Disaster for San Francisco during the Loma Priety earthquake 1989, and Information Systems, installing two local area networks and a wide area network linking the 11 offices in the Bay Area. He consulted for the The Metropolitan Museum in New York and the National Gallery in Washington D.C. in the development of "Tokens of Affection: The Portrait Miniature in America" a show of water color on ivory miniatures that traveled throughout the nation. For three years he was Board Chair at Mountain View Masters, an adult community swim program. Currently, Bob is Board Chair of the Samaritan Counseling Center of the Mid-Peninsula located in Palo Alto.
He and his family have hosted over 100 foreign students with the International Center at Stanford through "Home Stay", "English in Action", and the Gorbachev Foundation in San Francisco. As a result of his endeavors, Bob Spears has recognized the need for special training and exposure of foreign nationals in understanding how our society works. He has lived internationally in Peru, France, Britain, Holland, Switzerland, and Italy. In his spare time, Bob works on his cabin in The Sawtooth National Forest, Idaho and enjoys the fruit of his labors in his orchard and vegetable garden.
For two years he was chair of the board of the Samaritan Couseling Center of the Mid-Peninsula located in Palo Alto. Currently, he chairs the San Mateo Country Committee of Leave-a-Legacy, a program to develop the commnity's awareness of the importance of including non-profit organizations in estate planning.
